About the Web hostess
Hello - I am Sharman and I am the web hostess of
The Power of One ~ Richard Gere

I started this site back in 1999 after meeting Richard
Gere for the very first time. We were in NYC for a
teaching by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and I was
fortunate enough to gain his attention.

He called me over to his car and talked with me for
a few minutes before the crowd came charging!

His birthday was very close and I had brought him a
birthday card with a letter  and a couple pictures inside,
one of me and one of His Holiness from the day before.
Below he is holding the card in his hand, you can see the
white corner...

He had to rush off quickly, but as he left he was opening
the card and the letter and showed me through the
window. As I crossed the street, he rolled down the
window and told me to be careful crossing.

Two hours later, as we were heading back to the Beacon
Theater, Richard pulled up in his car. As he got out I
could see him searching the crowd. When he saw me he
called to me to come over. I crossed the street, went
beyond the barricades and the police allowed me to go
through. He said to me, "So you are from Ohio huh"? I
replied, "yes, from Ohio". He laughed and repeated Ohio
like me...evidently he thought I had some sort of accent!
He joked with me on how I talked and thanked me for
the card and letter and the photos. He told me the photos
were both very nice.       We talked just a little longer and
then he was off, into the building to resume teachings with
His Holiness. He waved to me as he went in...

I knew he had read the entire letter because it was at the
end of the letter that I told him I was from Ohio.

Needless to say I was quite tickled that he took the time.
I have met Richard again since, and I am always amazed
at how down to earth he is. Talking to him is like talking
to an old friend. He stays focused on you and listens
attentively as you speak. He gives the respect that you
would want to give to him.

I have almost always been a fan of Richard... Since I
was 8-years-old anyway. My mom and step-dad took the
family to a drive-in for a three movie matinée. American
Gigolo being one of the three. I was too young to know
what the movie was about and my parents blocked our
view from the sexy parts (that I finally saw when I was
much older!), but I really liked that guy on the screen!

My grandfather was a tabloid junky and I remember as a
kid, we would go visit them and I would get into the side
pocket of grandpa's recliner where he kept all his weekly
gossip papers. I would read through the entire paper
looking for stuff on Richard Gere! Even back then I
would cut out the articles! I have them to this day and
spent many hours laminating articles and adding them to
my three ring binder! I have a huge rubbermaid tub under
my bed with nothing but Richard Gere memorabilia!

My husband puts up with me and my adoration...after
all, I loved Richard Gere before I loved him!
Even still he better not make me choose

Before Richard Gere there was only one other man,
Elvis Presley. I still love Elvis and always will. I was only
6 1/2 years old when he died, but I remember it like
yesterday and I remember it very clearly. My mom said I
adored Elvis from the time I could talk!

I remember going to Memphis with my grandparents
when I was about 5-years-old, but I haven't been back
since. I am going to Graceland  next Spring when the
weather turns nice again. I can't wait, gives me something
to look forward to in 2009.

I see a lot of similarities between Richard Gere and
Elvis Presley. Both are (were) very philosophical beings. I
see them both as very spiritual which is a great interest of
my own and a major draw to them both. While Gere is a
well known Buddhist, Presley followed his Christian
roots, although he was very open minded and delved into
theological texts with much interest in an effort to gain
enlightenment. They both love(ed) their horses, their
families, are (were) generous to the less fortunate,
charismatic, triple threats...singing, dancing and acting.

I believe that a man's love for his horse can reflect his
whole being, somehow capturing his spirit and soul. Not
only does (did) Richard & Elvis love their horses, they
both love(d) animals in general. Again, a major draw for
me as I have my own menagerie of horses, ponies, goats,
barn cats, a dog and the occasional coyote, skunk, fox,
raccoon and opossum! Both of these men have
contributed so much to a variety of charities throughout
their lives...a great contribution to our world.

Anyway, I started this site because it is very difficult to
find all the news, stories and photos of Richard Gere
online. I searched countless hours to find all the great
resources for Richard Gere information. I wanted to
make this site to help all the fans of Richard's to be able
to come to one site for all the news available. I hope that
you all enjoy it.

You may notice that some Richard Gere photos and
rumors are absent from this site...and so they shall
remain. He is a person of value to me and I won't
diminish his career, his philanthropy, his work or his life
by posting nonsense and naked photos. I'm not a prude...I
didn't say I didn't have them....I just won't put them out
here

As any fan of Richard would agree, he is easy on the eyes,
easy on the heart, easy to love and a joy to watch on
screen. He is more than an actor, he is a kind and
compassionate human being.

If there is anything missing from this site that you would
like to see, please let me know. This is the most visited
Richard Gere site on the web with hundreds of thousands
of visitors from 105 countries world wide.

Obviously Richard Gere has touched many lives.

        Happy surfing & happy day....
I hope all your dreams come true.

  In peace always,
